5 Ways to Protect Your Skin at the Barn

What is the biggest organ in your body? If you said skin you’d be right. Since it is our outermost layer most of us take it for granted. Equestrians push their skin, and other vital organs like the brain and heart, to the max. Its important as we start spending more time outside in the nicer weather that we are kind to our skin. Let’s look at 5 easy ways to protect your skin at the barn!

#1. Sunscreen

Sunscreen is the easiest way to protect your sun-exposed areas of skin. It is important to not forget to re-apply every 2 hours. If you’re not sure re-application is something you can manage, no problem! Consider in investing in options 2 through 5 for sure. If you want a soft dewy glow and added SPF be sure to check out URGO Beauty’s Best Day BB Cream. You can use one of my girl’s codes (RAIN10) for 10% off!

#2. Apparel with UV Protection

Equestrian apparel has come a long way in the last few years. Equestrian-owned Novella’s Jemeal is made with fabric that utilizes quick dry and moisture wicking technology as well as UPF 30+. You can shop this top for 20% off at Golden Fox Equestrian, using my code GFEOXERS20. Another solid option with UV protection is the Kismet Alexa Turtleneck. Don’t let the term turtleneck scare you, this is a great way to protect your neck if you don’t have or forget to put on option 3. It is a fabric that is almost perforated that allows for maximum breathability, but is absolutely not see-through. You can shop this top at Farm House Tack with 5% using my code Oxers2.

#3. Neck Scarf

Have a cute top that does not provide great coverage of your chest or neck? No problem. Elevated Equestrian created a magnetic bandana. Megan developed this line with solid and printed options. The printed options definitely dress up a more subtle top into a more elevated look.

#4. Helmet Visors

The world of helmet visors has evolved greatly since I entered the sport in a year I prefer to not state. Wide brim helmets are all the rave now with brands like OneK, KASK, and Samshield. Don’t want to commit to a wide brim 24/7? There are removable options like the EquiVisor and Soless. The Soless provides full spectrum sun protection with 92% UV protection! While the EquiVisor shades your face and neck it’s material does not possess UV protection. Pro Tip: Use my code Oxers2 on all of these items for money off!

#5. Gloves

You forgot your hands didn’t you? Don’t worry I forget about it too. Luckily having a young horse I wear gloves when I ride all of the time. Ocelot I’m a little more laxed about. My current favorite glove is hands down Kunkle Gloves, owned by a fellow equestrian and you can (you guessed it!) get them from Farm House Tack! Kunkle has a mesh and a premium option. Best part: MACHINE WASHABLE!
