5 Items That Make Winter More Tolerable as a Horse Girl

I know this may be the unpopular opinion as many of you loathe the summer heat. I am a fan of sweating and sunshine. Therefore, we are about to enter my least favorite season… winter. Here are my favorite items that I have at the ready to survive but not thrive during the winter months.

  • 1. Ororo Heated Vest: I love this thing so much I have had to retire my OG ororo vest that my husband got me for Christmas 3 years ago! Linked above is the vest off of Ororo’s discount rack (offered at OVER 50% off!). The vest offers the best return on investment I think because it offers more versatility than the jacket option. I would recommend sizing up if you’d like to be able to layer underneath it.
  • 2. Samshield Winter Helmet Liner: I wish such an item existed when I was freezing in NY as a child. However, it was not. So I will forever have one of these helmet liners. This is only for Sammie girls.

  • 3. Winter Riding Pants: There is no need to freeze or layer under your regular season riding pants when there are so many great winter breeches and tights. Some of my favorites include BOTORI (tell PJ we need more released ASAP!), Ariat and Kerrits. Shout out to Kerrits for having a winter breech that you can horse show in (PS: they also have a winter show shirt too)

  • 4. Quarter Sheets: Oce is a biiiig quarter sheet boy. I am however, trying to not over coddle Enzo as I would like him to grow up to be a little more temperature tolerant than his older brother. My favorite quarter sheet on the market is the Back on Track fleece quarter sheet. There is a Nylon option too.
  • .5. Horse Quencher: I have tried every product on the market to get Ocelot to drink. Horse Quencher is by far his favorite. He does prefer 3-5 puff peppermints added. Enzo also gives the “horse tea” a 10/10 and SLURPS it right up! I think Enzo would love to try the apple flavor one day, but for now we remain a peppermint household.

What items can you not survive winter without!? Let me know what I forgot!
